Exterior trim

Add key exterior trim products Specialty Sealing Products

SafeSeal™

  • SefeSeal combines proximity and tactile sensing into one seal that allows for the automatic reversal of windows or door partitions to prevent a pinching injury. SafeSeal can be integrated into the system (glass run) or taped on the application to sense both animate and inanimate objects.
  • Proximity sensing reverses the window / door with zero pinch force as it is able to sense, by the capacitance, an animate object. Tactile sensing reverses the window at < 30nm, well below the current industry technology.

Specialized Trim Solutions

  • Anodized Aluminum Trim – a lightweight, yet aesthetically pleasing, replacement for stainless steel.
  • Polycarbonate Hardcoat Trim – a more robust Class-A alternative for interior and exterior designs. Trim is designed to customer specific requirements and is available as a color keyed option.

Aesthetic Sealing Enhancements

  • Flush Glass Systems – systems that improve sight line by eliminating the gap between the glass and appliqué. The gap elimination also improves aerodynamics, which can lead to improved fuel economy.
  • Lower Weight Outer Belts – a lightweight replacement for stainless steel that reduces cost by eliminating parts (stainless steel and individual clips are reduced). Also reduces end retention issues without adhesives, while eliminating the need for stretch bending.
  • Variable Extrusion (and films on TPV / PP seals) – provides the ability to vary the thinness of the profile, which aids in localizing the seal to accommodate different matting areas. Also allows for greater design flexibility with the ability to vary the bulb thickness. Offers customers instantaneous and continuous options.
  • Illuminated Light Seals – a use LED (active) or reflective material (passive) to provide ambient lighting to the exterior and / or interior of the vehicle.

Environmentally Conscious Seals

  • Agrifiber Seals – made with materials that are filled with natural fibers such as hemp, wheat straw or kenaf. By utilizing these natural fibers in sealing systems, Cooper Standard is displacing petroleum-based materials and at the same time reducing the weight of its products.
  • Soy-based Seals – door mounted seals that are derived from soy bean oil (Polyol) vs. petroleum oil (EPDM ethylene propylene diene Monomer rubber). Cooper Standard’s goal is to develop polymeric materials from renewable sources that will have improved or comparable performance characteristics, while reducing the environmental impact of petroleum-based products.

Trim and Sealing Capabilities

  • Provides extensive vehicle body and door seals extruded from EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer M-Class rubber), TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) and PVC (polyvinyl chloride) that can be reinforced with steel, aluminum and / or wire carriers.
  • Utilizes TPV (thermoplastic vulcanizate) and PP (polypropylene) seals to reduce weight on products such as glass runs and inner belts, while providing greater design flexibility for these components.
  • Has the ability, through its patented process, to provide a one-piece co-extruded assembly with glass run lips integrated below the belt channel to provide weight savings and cost reduction.
  • Offers modular solutions that are extruded from EPDM, TPE and PVC with co-extrusion of material with low adhesion factors.
  • Provides customers with the ability to improve vehicle sealing aesthetics with uniform appearance.
  • Reduces complexity at assembly plants and provides ease of installation and enhanced reliability due to one-piece component.
  • Provides the ability to adjust inboard or outboard primary door seal (depending on build variation) and to easily add additional features that further reduce complexity.
